We started out with the wonderful Shetland Sheepdog breed in 2006. Since that time, we have not looked back! Our Kennel name, “Amaley” is made up of a combination of letters of my two special twin daughters names; Amanda and Haley.
At Amaley, temperament is our top priority. Our shelties are not kennel dogs, they are all in the house and part of the family, some even sleep on the bed!
We have bred and raised shelties with titles in Confirmation shows, Herding Trials, Rally Obedience, and Agility. A lot of our dogs have the Canine Good Neighbour title, and one of our special boys was a Certified St Johns Ambulance Therapy Dog. Our dogs are our companions first, and they all lead busy lifestyles.
One of our bigger accomplishments has been breeding and training dogs to be Certified Service Dogs for MSAR and Courageous Companions. Those dogs are trained to support Canadian Forces Veterans with PTSD.
The picture above is by Kathy Seadon, she portraited our St John’s Ambulance Certified Therapy Dog “Diesel”, he was amazing! His favorite part of the job was having children read to him in the “See Spot Read” program with the Winnipeg Humane Society. This program offers children a safe and non-judgmental opportunity to develop their reading and comprehension skills, reading out loud to a Therapy Dog. The positive effects are noticeable through increased confidence and performance. Diesel was a natural and really enjoyed his work. This boy was a once in a lifetime dog!
